Alamieyeseigha and African Kleptocrats

Black Looks’ assertion this morning about … brings to fore the art/act of kleptocracy in many African countries: “Baylesa State ex Governor and thief, Alamieyeseigha’s journey into the world of buffoons continues as following his arrest by Nigerian police he has now apparently applied for a British visa. No doubt finding himself in police custody in Nigeria he has decided that prison in the UK would be more comfortable than Nigeria Police HQ.”

I must say here that Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is not the only kleptocrat in Nigeria, or in the world for that matter. It is common knowledge that many (if not most) African political leaders are only in power to steal from the state’s coffers. They have never achieved much in life, and only see power as an oppurtunity for self-enrichment. Can you blame them?

Back to Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, I just read on The Punch that he has began confessing: “Detained former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha has reportedly begun to sing like a canary, saying he actually owned the companies cited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as the conduit used to siphon billions of Naira belonging to the state. “ The Punch

He had better did.

As for the other African kleptocrats who are busy stilling and thereby denying their own people of the much needed economic development, their dooms-day is around the corner.

  1. Of course “Alamieyeseigha is not the only kleptocrat in Nigeria, or in the world for that matter.” My intention is not to imply that he IS but merely to point out his ever increasing pathetic and disgraceful behaviour. The man really needs to shut up as each new sentence he utters he debases himself even more – I guess he no longer has any friends to advise him on his word or actions!!
