More African countries can now receive money via PayPal

I got a tip through a comment from a reader of this blog. I am republishing the comment verbatim because I have verified the information.

Sehemu-Nyeti wrote from Kenya:

PayPal users in the following African countries can now receive money: Malawi, Algeria, Mozambique, Lesotho, Morocco, Botswana and Seychelles. Whats even better for them (unlike those from South Africa and Kenya) is that they can withdraw directly to a debit card which is a faster way of withdrawing. In Kenya for instance, you have to withdraw to a US bank account , which very few people have, and if you have it, it takes 3-4 days to withdraw it. I now so much envy guys from all these other countries that can withdraw using a credit card.

This is significant because PayPal is the leading online payment system with 237,778,590 users worldwide at the time of writing.

    Hi David,

What online payment systems do you recommend for ecommerce sites interested in selling to African countries not covered by paypal, especially Nigeria, Ghana etc. ?

  2. AmeboAbroad says:

PS I’m referring to ecommerce sites based abroad (North America/Europe).

    Thanks

  3. Mustapha says:

Very nice to hear. But when will Ghana and Nigeria be given this opportunity?

  4. Gerald says:

Ghana…in the near future, Nigeria….never. lol

  5. Edward says:

I envy them too. I hear Paypal works in neighboring Togo, yet it has been difficult for interested parties to lead Paypal into Ghana. Maybe one day, they will have a reason to heed to our calls.

Can’t wait for Nigeria to be de-listed from every blacklist imaginable. We can’t sign up to Western Union or MoneyGram to send money overseas. We can’t always shop for items on most international web sites with our Nigerian-issued credit cards. And when we are able to shop, some sellers won’t ship here.

    It’s so sad.

  7. GADEL says:

Interesting. . . Who are they trying to fool? Definitely not me. Paypal can’t full me.
