Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana top cybercrime in Africa

The verdict is out: Nigeria is still among the top ten countries from which fraudulent credit card transactions and other forms of cyber-crime originate though USA and UK lead the pack. According to WikiNews:

The United Kingdom is listed second in a report on global cyber-crime statistics, behind the United States and ahead of cyber-crime “hotspots” Nigeria and Romania. The 2007 Internet Crime Report was released in April by the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), a joint operation between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National White Collar Crime Center.

It is interesting to note that 3 sub-Saharan African countries are listed among the top ten perpetrators with Nigeria taking the lead. :-|

The 2007 Internet Crime Report cites the top ten countries by amount of perpetrators of online crime. In descending order, the top ten list includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Canada, Romania, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Russia, and Ghana…

the worlds most leading fraudulent country will soon be located in Africa as Nigeria and others are practicing now.I here by say this on the ad that Ghanaians especially the youth if not handle and counselled with care will also break into these fraud. An advice to the youth is to keep away from the so clled scammers and hacking activities. This is because the consiquencies of this will lead to a great damage of name forever in ones life. I love all the youth and will give any assisstance to them in terms of hacking and will be their friends in any way by provinding to you all the necessary information that one may need to advance in the hacking environment.i will write to anybody who thinks that being with a helper is a great thing. But i will not write to anyone who ends up in jail.i am only t-thr years and some how a literate in computer. i have not gone to any computer school but always learn from friends who have their own personal computers and even do more than them. i need someone who can devote to give me a free gift of computer. thank yallll

It is quite unthinkable and unbelieveable. From every good things there is always an open door for bad eggs. IF Nigeria is rated high in cybercrime in the world, that shows the level at which Nigerian are willing to survive, i strongly believe that you cannot become an hacker overnight, except through constant practicing. Believe it or not, Naija has gone gaga over the internet, from every university in Nigeria there is always a group of hacker, the upcoming and the BIG guns recruiting new hands everyday, please find time to get the Die Hard 4 Action Film by Bruce Willis. I can recommend the following way on how to reduce the cybercrime in Nigeria but not ULTIMATELY!
    1. Provision of Social Ammenities
    2. Good Governance
    3. Public declaration of asset by Big Guys in power
    4. Provision of Educational Facilities
    5. Re-Orientation of the youth
    6. Leadership by example, Practise what you Preach!
and many more other better ideas from folks all over the globe
    Stay blessed, up Naija

thats absoulutely ridiculous!oladipupo! you there justify taking someone’s property illegally? incredible! you must have air running through your veins and you must despise the virtues such as honesty and truth as a “swine” abhores cleanliness…i hope this is your individual problem and that not all nigerians think as you do. incredilbe!

Dear kwaku, please don’t misunderstand my response to the issue of cybercrime, you need to read the content of my response once again, what i am trying to say is, i am not encouraging unethical hacking by crackers, if ethical hacking is legitimate on a professional ground. Above all, what makes our youths this days to get into fraudulent activities? you can answer that, you won’t say there is no such crime in the United Stated of America, infact they have the highest rate compared to us. I am putting this to you if our government provides necessary facilities,1. Provision of Social Ammenities, Good Governance, Public declaration of asset by Big Guys in power, Provision of Educational Facilities, Re-Orientation of the youth nobody i mean no one will think of farudulent activities on the NET!

i think cybercrime can be curtailed to a large extend if such hackers are identified and streamlined to work in the telecomm industry, i believe the sole reason why there is such kind of crime is unemployment, instead of severe punishment for such it should be rehab and proper orientation with a sense of belonging. thanks.
