Ghana 2008 Photos Today 20th January 2008 is the first day of the MTN African Cup of Nations (Ghana 2008) tournament. There would be a splendid opening ceremony today at the Accra Sports stadium as well as the opening match which would be between host country Ghana and a fellow West African nation Guinea.

The Black Stars of Ghana have are poised to win this match backed by a stadium of 40,000 sitting capacity out of which most will be Ghanaians. More so, the Ghanaian national team has several players who are professionals based in Europe.

I wish I could be in the stadium today but the tickets are sold-out. Before now, one was simply told the tickets were not yet available. I figure the tickets came in late and were then ‘nichodemusly’ sold to government cronies. Else, how come the tickets are so hard to come by?

Aside that, tomorrow is another day I am looking forward to. The match between Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire. It would be a very interesting match and I hope to be in Sekondi to watch it in the stadium. Predictions anyone?

  1. Hi, David!

I’m a Brazillian blogger from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul state. I live in a land of two football world champions: my GRÊMIO FOOT-BALL PORTO ALEGRENSE (1983 2-1 against Hamburger S.V. from Germany) and our biggest rival (S.C. Internacional, 1-0 FC Barcelona).

I’m watching all games of African Cup of Nations 2008 on TV and reading a lot of news and watching photos from the event.

I found your great blog after following the link from your Flickr photos.

I also take some pictures in most of GRÊMIO matches at home in our Olímpico Monumental stadium.

I love Africa and one of my biggest dreams is to visit at least a few countries in Africa. Nowadays I don’t have money to make this trip with my wife Lúcia, but in the next 5 years, who knows?! ;)

My best regards and have a great ACN!
